[dsl-visitors] Saturday, Bamboo & Banyans: Architectural prototyping

Fellow hackers,

on Saturday, 1 July, there will be another session in our series Bamboo
& Banyans. The idea behind this series is living architecture: We build
a scaffold from bamboo, then guide the aerial roots of banyan trees
along it. Over time, a structure from dead wood transforms into a living
organism. An example are the living root bridges in Meghalaya.

During the last Bamboo & Banyans session, we went out to Mui Wo to visit
a potential construction site. What we found are the ruins of an old
squatter house. The ruins were measured and 3D scanned.

During this session, we will:

 1. Familiarize ourselves with the concept of living architecture.

 2. Sketch out ideas.

 3. Build architectural models using bamboo sticks.

Computer controlled machines at Dim Sum Labs, such as the laser cutter
and 3D printers, are at your disposal for realizing extended creative
ideas.

The workshop requires no prior knowledge and is available to
participants of all ages. Kids should be supervised by a parent or
guardian.
